Christmas preparation took on a whole new level in an orphanage filled with 88 expectant and very excited children, not to mention the 500 (approx) children at our outreach programme in Malabon; for which Gentle Hands prepares individual Christmas gifts and food parcels, crafts and music.
Christmas comes but once a year ….. phew!!! Hehehehe
There can be nothing but admiration as one watches Charity at work. As Executive Director, she bears the sole responsibility for organising a holiday that holds infinite weight in the hearts of all the children and staff under her care. She shows not a moment of the stress that she must surely (surely??) be under! With smiles and laughter (and a coffee or two) ... she executes it perfectly. Staff party, Christmas Eve candlelight service, Malabon, Christmas Day…. and the normal everyday runnings of an orphanage of this size.
Days were long as we unpacked boxes upon boxes of donated toys, sorted them, divided them into age groups, and then individually wrapped and packed. I have a newfound empathy for Santa :)…
… And it was worth every second of time spent …
